Kristen Adamczyk Lewis is a figure skating coach at South Suburban Ice Arena and the Family Sports Center.
Kristen was raised in the suburbs just outside of Chicago, Illinois. Born to Polish immigrant parents, Kristen grew up in a family of very talented athletes. Her father, cousins, uncles, and friends all played hockey, while she took to baseball, soccer and horseback riding. It wasn’t until the age of 9, that her parents put her on the ice for the first time. In under an hour, Kristen realized that she loved the feeling of the ice and she was hooked. From there, she set her sites on her ultimate goal of becoming an Olympic Champion.
Kristen’s skating career took her around the country to train with some of the best coaches in the world. Barbara Kossowska, Zdzislaw Pienkowski, Paula Wagner and Debbie Storey, just to name a few. Her family made many sacrifices to help her attain her goals.
It wasn't until 1996 when Kristen and her family moved to Colorado Springs to train at the Broadmoor World Arena, that her skating career took off. Under the training of Kathy Casey and Janet Champion, Kristen represented the Broadmoor Skating Club and became a Regional and Sectional Champion, National Competitor, International Medalist, and Novice and Junior Team USA Member.
Kristen’s ended her skating career and left the sport in 2002, setting her sites on other life goals. She attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs pursuing an accounting degree while excelling in other industries. In 2015, Kristen owned two successful restaurants in Denver and Colorado Springs but continued to have a calling to come back to the sport of figure skating. After selling her restaurants in 2016, Kristen returned to the ice and her passion for the sport that helped shape her life.
While Kristen never attained her goal of becoming an Olympic Champion, she is incredibly grateful for the life lessons that figure skating taught her throughout her journey. The goal is to pass on the lessons she learned to our future generation of athletes.
Kristen’s coaching philosophy is to guide young students to learn to become ATHLETES first, and then to have a Champions attitude not only on but off the ice. Her dream is to help skaters of all ages and levels achieve their goals. Through goal-setting, discipline, and of course fun, she guides her students to learn and master this amazing sport!
